Fluidra Focuses on Driving Sustainability in Pool Industry During Climate Action Week

San Diego, CA – October 23, 2023 – Fluidra, a leading provider of pool and wellness equipment, is once again celebrating International Day of Climate Action (October 24) with a weeklong event (October 23–27) to help raise awareness of climate change, take action towards reducing our carbon footprint, and showcase how the industry can mitigate its impact on the environment.

Last year, the company offset its day-to-day carbon emissions by planting well over 25,000 trees globally for every variable-speed pump that was purchased during Climate Action Week, resulting in 3641 tons of carbon being absorbed from the atmosphere.

This year, as part of their reforestation initiative, the company has added cartridge filters in its effort to incentivize pool professionals to do their part by installing more efficient equipment; for every variable-speed pump or cartridge filter sold globally during the week of Oct. 23 -27, Fluidra will plant a tree.

“This promotion is an example of how we're trying to call attention to some simple steps our industry can take to minimize it's footprint on the environment while keeping our industry thriving,” said Lennie Rhoades, president at Fluidra North America.

Beyond Climate Action Week, Fluidra will continue driving change by drawing attention to more efficient solutions that provide pool owners with products that decrease energy use, water loss and chemical use, all while helping to reduce the costs of pool ownership. They will also continue to invest in the technologies that help create a more sustainable — and cost-saving — pool experience.

Solutions for a More Sustainable Pool

One of the most important additions homeowners can add to their pools to increase its efficiency is an automatic pool cover. As part of the Fluidra family of brands, Cover-Pools®— who invented the automatic pool cover — creates the most advanced pool cover systems in the industry. One of the primary advantages is the 94 percent1 reduction in water loss due to evaporation. A standard 20 x 40 pool without a cover can lose up to 26,000 gallons of water per year due to evaporation, but with an automatic cover, that loss is reduced to as little as 1,560 gallons— saving 24,440 gallons of water each year2. A pool cover also acts as an insulating barrier, minimizing heat loss while optimizing a pool’s overall efficiency by up to 70 percent3.

Another pivotal aspect of these pool covers lies in their ability to reduce chemical usage. By preventing debris and external contaminants from entering the pool water, the covers mitigate the organic load, resulting in a decreased demand for chlorine and other pool chemicals. Not only does this foster a healthier and more pleasant swimming experience for patrons, it also contributes to a more sustainable approach to pool maintenance.

At the heart of the pool pad, Fluidra is proud to offer a lineup of 22 ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps. By incorporating advanced technology and innovative design, Jandy® variable-speed pumps earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR certification for their ability to optimize energy efficiency up to 62 percent4 while maintaining performance levels.

In the spirit of moving the pool towards greater sustainability, the company has also recently transitioned away from less efficient incandescent lighting towards more energy-saving LED lighting. LED lighting offers numerous advantages over conventional lighting systems, including reduced energy consumption, extended lifespan, and improved lighting quality. By concentrating solely on LED technology, Fluidra is helping pool owners conserve energy and decrease their overall electricity usage by up to 87 percent5.

In addition to LED lighting, the brand’s popular JXi™ Gas Pool and Spa Heater also delivers on power-saving performance with its superior engineering that boasts an impressive 84-percent thermal efficiency rating along with a low-NOx design that surpasses strict Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. The JXi also introduced Integrated Bypass Technology to further conserve energy by allowing water to circumvent the heat exchanger once water has reached its designated temperature. Bypassing the heater enables variable-speed pumps to be run at a lower speed which translates into increased energy savings.

“Every day we’re confronted with rising energy costs; the potential for increased environmental stress, such as drought in the west; and new federal, state and municipal policies that seek to address the issues,” said Lennie Rhoades, president at Fluidra North America. “We need to be proactive in our efforts to ensure the industry is well-positioned for the long term. As such, we’ll continue to lean into developing and providing our customers with products that are more efficient.”
